Helping QA teams keep pace with AI-powered software development
The webinar opened with a look at how AI is transforming software development. As development teams deliver features faster, QA teams face growing pressure to maintain quality without slowing releases.
That challenge continues to shape Xray's AI strategy. Rather than replacing testers, AI is designed to reduce repetitive work, surface meaningful insights, and help teams focus their expertise where it has the greatest impact.
With that vision in mind, the Xray product team introduced several capabilities across the Xray platform.
AI Test Prioritization helps teams focus on the most important Tests
One of the biggest announcements was AI Test Prioritization, a feature designed to help teams determine which Tests should be executed first when time is limited.
Powered by Sembi IQ, AI Test Prioritization analyzes historical Test Executions, linked Defects, and execution context to rank the Tests most likely to uncover important issues. Teams can further tailor prioritization using natural language prompts, configurable analysis timeframes, and Jira labels.
One of the key takeaways from the live demonstration was the transparency behind every recommendation. Instead of acting as a black box, each prioritized Test includes AI Priority Insights, explaining why it received its ranking. Every prioritization run is also recorded in Xray history, giving teams full visibility into the strategy that was applied.
The demonstration also showed how teams can prioritize an existing Test Plan or Test Execution before a release, helping maximize testing efforts when executing every Test isn't possible.

AI capabilities simplify testing workflows
The Summer Release also introduced additional AI capabilities designed to reduce manual work throughout the testing lifecycle.
Rovo Test Plan Summarizer
The Rovo Test Plan Summarizer integrates Atlassian's AI assistant directly with Xray.
Instead of manually reviewing Test Plans, linked Tests, Test Executions, and Defects, teams can ask Rovo to generate a summary that includes execution progress, Defect tracking, and an overall risk assessment directly within Jira.
The webinar demonstrated how this capability helps teams spend less time gathering information and more time making informed testing decisions.
AI Test Script Suggestions
The webinar also showcased AI Test Script Suggestions for Test Case Designer, available in Xray Enterprise.
By describing what they want to test using natural language, teams can generate suggested manual or Gherkin Test Scripts instead of writing every step from scratch. During the demonstration, Sembi IQ also suggested additional Test Steps and scenarios that had not been explicitly requested, helping improve Test completeness and reduce the risk of missing important cases.
Quality-of-life improvements across Xray
Beyond the AI announcements, the Xray product team introduced several enhancements designed to improve the day-to-day experience for administrators and QA teams.
Some of the updates covered during the webinar included:
- API Key rotation without changing the client ID.
- API Key expiration dates and permission scopes.
- CSV export for API Key management.
- Improvements to the "Add Steps" dialog to help prevent accidental data loss.
- Greater control over the number of AI-generated Test Cases.
- Enhanced AI overview reporting for administrators, including AI usage and credit consumption.
- An update on Xray's migration to Atlassian Forge, designed to be seamless with no expected impact on existing data, integrations, or workflows.
While these updates may not be headline features individually, together they help make Xray easier to administer and scale across larger organizations.
What's coming next
The webinar also offered a preview of several capabilities currently in development.
Among them was MCP (Model Context Protocol) support, which will enable teams to access Xray data directly from compatible AI assistants and workflows.
The session also introduced AI Test Case Template designed specifically for evaluating AI-powered applications. Unlike traditional Test Cases built around deterministic pass or fail outcomes, this template is intended to support qualitative evaluation of Large Language Models (LLMs) and other AI applications.
These capabilities reflect an important shift in software testing. As AI becomes part of more products, teams will increasingly need tools designed not only to use AI, but also to test AI.
How Navozyme is using AI to transform Test creation
The webinar concluded with a customer spotlight featuring Navozyme, which shared how its QA team uses AI Test Case Generation as part of its daily workflow.
By using AI to generate initial Test Cases, the team has shifted its focus from manually writing Tests to reviewing AI-generated results, refining prompts, improving Test coverage, and spending more time on higher-value testing activities.
The demonstration also highlighted how generated Test Cases remain fully integrated with Jira, making them easily accessible across the broader development team.
